My marketing research related to my blog subject: the men’s cosmetic products. I wanted to know more about this topic and compare what the media say and write with what the people around me declare. 26 ESC-students answered my questionnaire, the majority were men (80%) and the average age was 22.5 years, from this fact the analysis will correspond to this sample. First of all, my aim was to check if people know some brand names of men's cosmetic products and to know if they were able to quote some of them. 88.5% are able to cite one or more brand names. It is important to see that consumers can mention spontaneously brand names. Ten different brands were quoted: Nivea for Men has very strong recognition, considering that more than 60% (14 votes) of respondents quoted this name. L’oréal holds the second place with 9 mentions. Gilette is also on the podium with 5 mentions. I was surprised to find Boss Skin in fourth position. Then follow brands such as: Axe, JP Gauthier, Mennen,
Vichy, Biotherm, Nickel. Notice that all these trademarks collected only one mention. Secondly, I thought that it was useful to know if the men buy and use cosmetic products. Because even if statistics show that this market is booming, I wanted to know if this tendency was identical in my school. 17 of the 21 male respondents said they used cosmetic products. The best seller is of course the shaving products. It is obvious that this kind of product is in first position because almost every man shaves. Then we find at equity face cream and hair products, with each 41%. Body creams are also successful among the men. The question which appears most relevant is to understand why the men use cosmetic products. The three main causes are: to look better, to have a soft skin and to protect their body. More surprising is to see that ads have a strong link with the purchases. It is often said that women buy products even if they don’t need them, they buy because they are far too easily swayed. But we also notice that men are sensitive to the ads. More than 40% would buy a product after having tested it thanks to a sample. We can say that companies work out very well their men’s offer, because they have met with a lot of success. To conclude, the ESC-boys follow the market. In fact, the men’s cosmetic market exploded almost 6 years ago and my marketing research demonstrated that male respondents are taking care of their skin and their body for 6 years.

In 1990, only 4 % of men declared to use regularly a facecare. In 2001, they were 21 %. Today, this increase is continuing. In 2015, it should be one of two man, according to a study.
The frenchmarket follows the tendency. The total turnover (skincare, fragrance and bodycream for men) progressed from 140% between 1998 and 2003, to 42,16 million euros.
It is a market in full growth because companies worked out a specific offer, adapted to the needs for the men. Today researchers stress that the menskin has particular biological characteristics: more secretion; thicker, more resistant, firmer derm and weakened skin due in particular by the use of soap and daily shaving.
Thanks to the sociological evolution, today, a man assumes to use careproducts, which was not the case a few years ago. It is not only any more taboo to buy a mancosmeticproduct but it enteres manners and it is a basic tendency.
The range Biotherm Men, one of the pioneers since 1985, does not count less than 45 products. Between 1997 and 2002, the growth of this line exploded: +250%. Clarins Men, which had put on the market 9 new products in 2002, addeded since five.
In addition to the leaders, less important marks launched out on this crenel. Like Nickel, created in the middle of the years 1990 and which managed in 10 years to reach the 5 million euros of turnover.
